Do you ever feel like your feet are glued to the ground and you have difficulty facing the day?
Do you have anxieties about your job, relationships, standing up for yourself or connecting with others?
We have all been there and felt like the mountain was too tall to climb-soooo tall, that we just settle back and agree with the voice in our head that says, “Hey, let’s do that tomorrow, there is too much going on today”, or “you don’t have enough time, you are so busy.” This conversation with your analytical mind can go on for days, weeks, years and, tomorrow never comes. We say things like “Oh I was going to do that” or “I thought about doing that and I don’t know what happened.” I have learned through my journey that doing nothing fools me into thinking that I’m doing something. It continues to keep me at the bottom of the mountain – stuck in the someday loop.
I’ve learned that the places that you give your attention or energy to are the same places that consume your attention and energy. If you are putting them in areas that are surrounded by self-doubt and self-defeat or victimization you can be assured that more of that will show up for you. That can be reversed by focusing on something that you do want, or something that you would like to create, putting an action behind it and start being it.
Doing something does not mean you have to dive into a huge project all at once. Doing something simply means doing something instead of nothing and you will be creating a new beginning of something and heading up to the top of the mountain.
Start by concentrating on one thing at a time.
Take your first step up the mountain, even a baby step is a step toward doing something.
- If you want to spring clean your home start by cleaning out one drawer or cabinet each day for 30 days. You will begin to feel the organization and calmness without the overwhelm and dread.
- Call people you have not talked with in a long time. Commit to one person a day for five days. At the end of the month, you will have reached out to 20 people. You will feel the connection instead of separation.
- It’s important to exercise your body and clear your mind. Simply begin by walking for 1 minute a day and add an additional minute each day. By the end of 30 days, you will be walking 30 minutes a day and enjoying the heathy benefits to mind and body.
- If you want to create something, make an outline of what you want to accomplish, do one thing on your list each day or each week and notice how quickly you reach what you set out to do.
